Former US Attorney General Bill Barr has raised serious concerns about former President Donald Trump future, stating that he is “toast” if even half of the allegations in his indictment are true. Barr made these remarks during an interview with Fox News Sunday.
Describing the indictment as “very damning,” Barr emphasized the gravity of the situation for Trump. Moreover, who has expressed intentions to run for president again in 2024 despite the possibility of conviction.
“If even half of [the indictment] is true, then he’s toast. It’s a very detailed indictment, and it’s very, very damning,”
Barr stated on Fox News.
Rejecting the portrayal of Trump as a victim, Barr said,
“This idea of presenting Trump as a victim here… is ridiculous. He’s not a victim here. He was totally wrong that he had the right to have those documents. Those documents are among the most sensitive secrets the country has.”
In response to Barr’s comments, Trump lashed out at the former Attorney General during an appearance on 77 WABC radio in New York. Trump criticized Barr as “a coward who didn’t do his job” and accused him of being afraid of impeachment.
Trump further expressed his belief that the indictment was a disgrace. And claimed that Barr’s stance was not shared by most people. He described his decision to terminate Barr’s position and labeled it a mistake.
The indictment against Trump, related to the mishandling of classified documents, was unsealed two days prior to these statements. The charges outlined in the indictment include 37 counts, with 31 counts. More so, specifically related to the willful retention of national defense information.
Special counsel Jack Smith, appointed by Attorney General Merrick Garland to oversee the investigation, emphasized the seriousness of the charges against Trump. While acknowledging the principle of innocence until proven guilty, Smith rejected claims that the investigation was politically motivated.
As the legal proceedings unfold, the outcome of the indictment against Trump will have significant implications for his political future and the broader political landscape.
