Michelle Yeoh has made history by winning a Golden Globe award.
Michelle Yeoh, a Malaysian actress, and producer, has made history by becoming the first Malaysian to win a Golden Globe. Yeoh took home the award for Best Performance by an Actress in a TV Series – Musical.
In addition, the talented actress was up for the award alongside Lesley Manville (Mrs. Harris Goes to Paris), Margot Robbie (Babylon), Anya Taylor-Joy (The Menu), and Emma Thompson (Good Luck to You, Leo Grande).
With a lighthearted jab, Yeoh suggested to the Golden Globe producers that they should “shut up” after the music began playing during her acceptance speech.
“I can beat you up,” Amidst the audience’s laughter, she exclaimed. “And that’s serious.”
“I’m just going to stand here and take this all in,” She exclaimed, her hands clasping tightly around the gleaming golden statuette.. “Forty years … I’m not letting go of this.”
Yeoh takes the lead role of Evelyn Wang in Everything Everywhere All at Once – a surreal comedy-drama directed by Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert. More so, it tells the story of an elderly Chinese immigrant who embarks on a peculiar, mystical voyage to explore alternate universes and connect with possible life paths she could have taken.
Even more, the award marks the first Golden Globe for Yeoh, and she is the first Malaysian to win a Golden Globe. She has risen from humble beginnings in Malaysia to become an acclaimed actress, with blockbuster roles.
