Sega, the creator of Sonic the Hedgehog, has announced plans to bring one of its highly popular franchises to the blockchain platform Game Dosi.
Game Dosi, operated by Korean mobile messaging company Line Next, is designed to host Web3 and NFT games. Sega has signed a memorandum of understanding with Game Dosi, signaling their partnership.
While the specific Sega franchise to be featured has not been disclosed, the memorandum states that it is an “immensely popular” brand from Sega’s portfolio, indicating the involvement of a well-known title (Venturebeat).
This news is somewhat unexpected, as Sega recently announced its withdrawal from Web3 game development. However, the company stated its intention to collaborate with external companies for any future plans in this area, which is precisely what the partnership with Line Next represents.
Youngsu Ko, the CEO of Line Next, expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration, stating that Game Dosi will provide Web3 content that can be easily enjoyed by gamers worldwide, including Sega fans. He added that Line Next is delighted to team up with Sega to bring exciting gaming experiences to the Web3 space.
Apart from Sonic the Hedgehog, Sega’s franchises include popular titles such as Crazy Taxi, Daytona, Ecco the Dolphin, Football Manager, Jet Set Radio, Like a Dragon, Puyo Puyo, and Super Monkey Ball.
